Russell Bean is ArtShop’s valued Yo-Yo instructor! Russell has a Masters of Education from the University of Idaho and 15 years experience teaching drama at Priest River High School. He has been a Yo-Yo teacher, organizer, and competitor since 1998. When asked why he teaches, Bean responded, “I love teaching yo-yo and theatre to students of all ages. Few things are more rewarding in life than sharing one’s passion with others and watching their appreciation for it grow--sometimes sparking a passion of their own.” Russell is a favorite ArtShop instructor with the students. And while he’s a great Yo-Yo teacher who makes an already fun skill to learn even more fun, he is also passionate about teaching drama and theatre: “A couple times a year I have the privilege of working with talented high school students to produce a play or musical.  Theatrical productions always present a number of difficult challenges that can only be overcome by working closely together with trust, talent, and determination. This is probably why many early theatre companies were comprised largely by family members, and this is why theatre troupes today become so comfortable working with each other.”

ArtShop is this week, July 28-August 1, 2014, for kids grades 2 to 8. What makes ArtShop unique? It is a full week of art classes, each student participating in one visual arts class and one performance arts class, ending with the children performing at the Art on the Green festival. Watch for a performance by Russell Bean's ArtShop class at Art on the Green this Friday, August 1.
